There are three areas of Professional Development addressed by
the ABP:
Training and qualifications
Individual development
Individual development within a company environment
1. Training and Qualifications
The ABP offers support through the difficult days and gruelling
period of training. While it does not offer financial support,
it will recommend training programmes run by academic
institutions which are known to the Management Board. The Board
welcomes feedback from any student and will discuss any training
issues with the student with a view to improving the training
and increasing the relevance of the qualifications regime.
2. Individual development
The ABP has a wide spread of members, and students and young
working professionals will find that people to whom they are
responsible are ABP members also. The ABP will work with
companies to ensure that students or PiTs are given adequate
opportunity to undergo personal development in a working
environment.
3. Individual Development within a
company environment
The emphasis today is very much on lifelong learning and
encouraging the acquisition of further qualifications and
experience. The ABP is developing ideas on lifelong learning and
how additional qualifications and experience might be used to
further an individual’s career. An example of this is a newly
qualification Masters graduate, who has to wait five years
before becoming accepted as a Principal Member. In the meantime
the graduate will be offered appropriate advice, should he
require it.
